Photograph of members of the Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston, Training School for Nurses Classes of 1914, 1916, and 1917 - the "twelve fervent young ladies" as described in the Hospital annals [84.1/21 pg. 50] - along with Superintendent Alice Donihee. The photograph taken on the steps of the Brock Wing of the Hospital around August 1914, at the time of the graduation of the Class of 1914.
The photographer, Henderson, signed the matte in pencil.
Most of the individuals in the photograph have been positively or tentatively been identified. Depicted are:
Back row: Alice Donihee, Superintendent;
Second Row Anna Legree, Mary Carlon, Jennie Legree (Class of 1914)
Third row: Mae Gibson? (Class of 1916), Margaret Waters? (Class of 1916), Isabel McDougall? (Class of 1916), Unidentified;
Fourth row: Janet McLellan? (Class of 1916), Mabel Hogan (Class of 1917), Grace Storms (Class of 1917), Unidentified; Margaret O'Keefe (Class of 1916).
One of the unidentified woman could be Hannah Devlin, who was not in the Class of 1916 photograph, with the other being a student who withdrew from the School (although there are no records indicating a student from the early classes left the school in early 1914). The photograph was taken before the October 1914 entrance of the other members of the Class of 1917 (Anne Cunningham and Anne Ryan).
